Tip of the Month- Sponge Painting
Are you tired of the same old solid colored walls? Give them a splash of multiple colors by sponge painting! Sponge painting is one of the easiest techniques that anyone can master, and we're going to tell you exactly how to do it!! You will need:
True Value EasyCare Eggshell finish paint (for your base coat), color of your choice
True Value EastyCare Eggshell finish paint (for your top coat), differing color that the first
True Value Simply Glaze
Paint Roller and Tray
Mixing Container
Trim Paint Brush
Natural Sea Sponges
Drop Cloth
Painter's Tape
Start by taping off any trim and anything else that you do not wish to paint. Paint your base color as you would normally and allow it to dry completely. Then, mix 1 part EasyCare paint (your top coat color) with 4 parts glaze (as recommended by the manufacturer) in a separate container. The glaze is used to ensure the paint does not dry too quickly while being applied (note: it is not completely necessary to have the glaze, but as mentioned before, if you are not sure of your abilities, we recommend you follow the manufacturers directions). Practice your sponging technique on a board with the top coat mixture to get your desired look. Also note that pushing the sponge too hard onto your surface will not give you the soft look desired (you DO want your base to show through!). Instead, use light, tapping motions, working in a 3 foot area at a time. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to do sponging; it is completely up to you! You can choose to put a light color as your base and a dark color as your top coat, or vice versa. The choice is up to you! If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at the store!
