Tip of the Month- November 2008

Want to know a great way to save money on your energy bills this winter that's super easy? Install a programmable thermostat! They have the capability to be programmed to a lower temperature when you are not in your house, yet keep your house warm when you are home. Here's how to do it...

  1. Be sure to have a screwdriver, torpedo level, and a drill.
  2. Turn off the electricity feeding your current thermostat.
  3. Pull the cover off the existing thermostat.
  4. Unscrew thermostat from its wall mounted sub base.
  5. Loosen wires connected to the thermostats sub base.
  6. Remove the old sub base.
  7. Hold sub base of the new thermostat to the wall and connect the red wire to the "R" screw terminal, and the white wire to the "W" screw terminal.
  8. Drill the new screw mounting holes for the sub base.
  9. Push plastic wall anchors flush into holes and screw the sub base to the wall.
  10. Insert batteries as directed into the thermostat and snap the cover on.
  11. Turn the electricity that feeds the new thermostat back on.
  12. Program the desired on/off time and temperature of the thermostat.

We have several programmable thermostats in stock to choose from. These thermostats work on central heat units, floor furnaces, and anything that has a wired thermostat. Using a new programmable thermostat can save you hundreds of dollars during the cold winter months, and if you have central air, can save you the same in the summer!
